Pay

Pay range

RM40 - RM100 per hour

Actual rate depends on subjects covered, your qualifications and experience (IPG-trained / ex-KPM primary teacher / graduate), and lesson format. Multi-subject upper-primary bundles and ex-KPM teachers sit at the upper end of the range.

Upper-primary tuisyen is still one of the most-requested categories in Malaysia. UPSR itself was retired in 2021 and replaced by school-based Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah (PBD), but families still call it UPSR prep, and they still want the same thing: strong readiness across BM, English, Matematik and Sains, and a confident jump into Tingkatan 1.

Why teach upper-primary with Edustar

  • A steady stream of Tahun 5-6 families matched to your subjects, area and preferred school stream (SK, SJK(C) or SJK(T)).
  • Competitive per-hour pay in MYR, paid reliably and on time.
  • Full flexibility: choose your hours, your students, and in-person or online delivery.
  • Clear expectations and friendly tutor support from our Kuala Lumpur team.
  • Teach across the full KSSR Tahun 1-6 spectrum. From foundation top-up to Tahun 6 transition prep for secondary school.

The role

What you will do

  • Run structured upper-primary revision across Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Inggeris, Matematik and Sains, aligned to KSSR Tahun 1-6 and the latest KPM standards.
  • Diagnose weak areas through diagnostic sets, then build a focused PBD-friendly learning plan for each Tahun 5-6 pupil.
  • Conduct timed practice, written drills and oral karangan / speaking practice. Including UPSR-style past-paper sets families still ask for.
  • Bridge SK, SJK(C) and SJK(T) pupils into a common standard, and prepare them for the Tingkatan 1 transition (PT3 stream).
  • Share clear, honest progress updates with parents after each topic block or PBD checkpoint.

Who we are looking for

  • A relevant degree or Pendidikan (teaching) qualification. IPG-trained tutors and ex-KPM primary teachers are strongly preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the KSSR Tahun 1-6 syllabus and Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah (PBD) school-based assessment.
  • Comfortable teaching all four core subjects (BM, English, Matematik, Sains) or at least two with strong depth.
  • Familiar with SK, SJK(C) and SJK(T) school routines, and the Tahun 6 to Tingkatan 1 transition.
  • Minimum 1 year of upper-primary teaching or tutoring experience, with patient, child-friendly delivery.
  • Based in Malaysia and eligible to work here, reliable and genuinely good with young learners.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Isn't UPSR abolished? Is there still demand?

Yes. UPSR was retired in 2021 and replaced by school-based PBD. But families still call this category UPSR prep and still want strong Tahun 5-6 readiness across BM, English, Matematik and Sains before secondary school. Demand is steady.

Do I need to be IPG-trained to tutor upper-primary?

No, but it helps. IPG-trained tutors and ex-KPM primary teachers are preferred and earn at the higher end. Graduates with strong KSSR knowledge and tutoring experience are welcome to apply.

Do I need to teach all four subjects (BM, English, Matematik, Sains)?

Not necessarily. Many tutors cover two or three with real depth. Multi-subject upper-primary tutors are in high demand and sit at the upper end of the pay range.

Can I teach SJK(C) or SJK(T) pupils as well as SK pupils?

Yes. We match by school stream and language comfort. Tell us your strongest stream(s) (SK, SJK(C) or SJK(T)) and we will match you accordingly.
