Actual rate depends on your qualifications and experience (IPG-trained / ex-Form 6 teacher / MUET examiner / graduate), the target band, and lesson format. Examiner-experienced tutors and intensive Band 5 coaching sit at the upper end of the range.
MUET (Malaysian University English Test) is the gatekeeper exam for almost every IPTA and IPTS undergraduate programme in Malaysia. Run by MPM (Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia) and CEFR-aligned across six bands, MUET tests Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, and families look for tutors who can lift a student from a baseline band to a competitive Band 4 or 5.

The role
What you will do
- Plan and deliver 1-to-1 or small-group MUET lessons that coach all four papers, Listening (Paper 1), Speaking (Paper 2), Reading (Paper 3) and Writing (Paper 4), to a clear target band.
- Diagnose each student's CEFR baseline and build a focused plan from current band up to Band 4-5 for competitive programmes like Medicine, Law and Engineering.
- Drill speaking technique (individual presentation and group discussion), writing essays and reports under time, and active-listening strategies for the MyMUET online format.
- Set and mark timed mock papers using MPM past-year material, model band-descriptor answers, and give clear written feedback.
- Share honest progress updates with parents after each paper or mock, with a realistic band forecast ahead of the actual sitting.
Who we are looking for
- A degree in English, Linguistics, TESL, Education or a related field.
- Prior MUET teaching or examining experience is strongly preferred; IPG-trained tutors and ex-KPM Form 6 teachers earn at the higher end.
- Excellent written and spoken English at a clear CEFR C1 / Band 5 level or above, with the ability to model essay and speaking answers live.
- Solid familiarity with the current MUET format (4 papers + MyMUET), CEFR band descriptors, and how MUET maps to IPTA, IPTS, IELTS and SPM English 1119.
- At least 1 year of pre-university, Form 6 or adult English teaching experience.
- Based in Malaysia and eligible to work here, reliable and genuinely good with pre-university students.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be IPG-trained or a former MUET examiner to tutor MUET?
No. IPG-trained tutors, ex-KPM Form 6 teachers and former MPM examiners are preferred and earn at the higher end, but graduates with strong English, a TESL background and pre-university teaching experience are welcome to apply.
Can I teach MyMUET and IELTS prep as well?
Yes. Many of our students take MUET alongside IELTS for overseas pathways, and MyMUET (the 6-session online format) is increasingly popular. You can opt in to teach either or both.
